Fair Use Terms

All FastCat shared hosting services (Virtual Servers, Web Hosting, WP Hosting) are subject to this fair use policy regarding resource usage. We believe in empowering your work with our services, not impeding it, and we therefore try our best to keep these terms as relaxed as possible to ensure all customers are properly served.

CPU Usage

Our virtual servers are in the form of virtual private servers (VPS), meaning CPU core resources are shared between users, as we don’t expect customers to 100% pin allotted CPU cores at all times. This is industry standard and allows us to provide more shared cores, greater performance, and much more affordable prices. Please avoid extensive periods of consistent peaks of CPU utilization and consistently high CPU utilization. Virtual servers may not use excessive CPU or disk resources for unreasonably extended periods. It’s extremely rare for customers to run against this section of the policy, and while we reserve the right to cap server CPU usage, we have never needed to since we work with customers to resolve any issues without restrictive action.

I/O Usage

Excessive storage I/O cases are much more rare but include running applications that generate excessive disk I/O operations, operating databases with extremely high write operations, and running continuous file read/write operations that degrade storage performance for other servers on the host node.

Network & Bandwidth

Each Virtual Server plan includes a defined bandwidth allocation. Regardless of available bandwidth, certain traffic usage patterns that are extensive and prolonged enough to impact network infrastructure and other customers are not permitted.
Cryptocurrency mining of any kind is strictly prohibited on virtual servers due to most tools having high CPU or disk consumption. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Mining for CPU-intensive cryptocurrency networks such as Bitcoin and Monero
  • Running mining software even if not actively mining
  • Participating in mining pools
  • Providing compute power for mining services
If you wish to use a virtual server for a particular project you believe would not pull a significant load, please contact us.
